Ethos Food School Programme
A Structured Food Education System for EYFS and KS1 Schools
Overview
A complete, curriculum-aligned programme that integrates food education into the academic year — reducing teacher workload while supporting learning in health, sustainability, culture, and science.
Designed for schools that want a consistent, structured and meaningful approach to food education without adding additional planning pressure for teachers.
For school leadership teams and curriculum leads
The Challenge
Food education is a priority across UK schools, yet in practice it is often fragmented, inconsistent, and dependent on individual teacher capacity.
Schools are expected to deliver learning across nutrition, sustainability, and cultural understanding — but without a structured framework that connects these areas into one coherent system.
The Solution
The Ethos Food School Programme is a structured, year-long learning system designed specifically for EYFS and KS1 settings.
It provides schools with a clear, practical framework that integrates food education across the curriculum in a way that is easy to deliver, adaptable, and sustainable over time.
What The Programme Delivers
- A fully structured food education system for the academic year
- Clear progression across EYFS and KS1
- Curriculum-aligned learning outcomes
- Reduced teacher planning and preparation time
- Flexible delivery (classroom-based, no garden required)
- Integration across science, health, culture and sustainability
Core Learning Areas
Eco Allotment
Understanding how food is grown and connecting children with natural systems and sustainability.
Whole Meals
Exploring nutrition through simple, balanced and practical food learning.
Food Diversity
Learning about global food cultures and how different communities approach food and eating.
Food Heritage
Exploring food traditions, history and cultural identity within the UK and beyond.
How It Works
- Autumn Term: Foundations of food and nature
- Spring Term: Nutrition and global food systems
- Summer Term: Food heritage, culture and identity
Each term builds progressively, reinforcing knowledge and skills over time.
Evidence Based Approach
Developed using peer-reviewed research and applied practice in food systems, education, and sustainability.
Insights are informed by academic literature and real-world classroom implementation.
Current Pilot
Developed through real classroom implementation
The Ethos Food School Programme is currently being piloted in a UK primary school, where it is being refined through live classroom delivery and continuous feedback from educators and pupils.
We are now working with additional schools to expand implementation, evaluate impact across different educational contexts, and build a scalable model for meaningful food education.
We don’t deliver standalone lessons — we deliver a complete food education system for schools.
